Get Ready for the August Bank Holiday

The August Bank Holiday falls on Monday 31st August 2026.

All South Coast Medical Group Surgeries will be closed from the end of the day on Friday 28th August and will reopen on the morning of Tuesday 1st September.

Have you got enough medication?

Bank holidays are always a busy time for repeat prescription requests. We’d recommend ordering them early to avoid delays in getting your medication over the long weekend.

The quickest and easiest way to order your repeat prescriptions is through the NHS App.

Getting Help While We’re Closed

If you need medical help over the bank holiday, the following options are available:

Think Pharmacy First

Community pharmacies can help with many common conditions, and can even prescribe medication in some cases. You can get help with:

  • Earache / ear infections (ages 1-17)
  • Impetigo (ages 1 and over)
  • Infected insect bites (ages 1 and over)
  • Shingles (ages 18 and over)
  • Sinusitis (ages 12 and over)
  • Sore throat (ages 5 and over)
  • Uncomplicated urinary tract infections (women ages 16-64)

NHS 111

NHS 111 is a 24/7 365 service, including bank holidays. It is usually the best place to go when the Surgery is closed.

You can get help from NHS 111:

You may be advised to attend the Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) at The Royal Bournemouth Hospital. Please always call 111 before attending the UTC.

Accident & Emergency and 999

In an emergency, always call 999. The nearest A&E department is located at The Royal Bournemouth Hospital.
