Only Order What You Need

Around 50,000 people in Dorset receive repeat GP prescriptions every month. However, it’s estimated that 1.6 million items are wasted each year in Dorset alone.

What can you do?

  • Check your medicines before ordering repeat prescriptions
  • Only order what you need – even it’s on your repeat list
  • Speak to your Pharmacy if you have questions or need support
  • Return unused or out-of-date medicines to any pharmacy for safe disposal

These simple steps can save millions in waste, free up healthcare professional time, and protect the environment and NHS resources.

How to Request a Repeat Prescription

  • Use the NHS App or SystmOnline
  • Send a request via your Pharmacy
  • Email your Surgery. Please use your surgery’s prescriptions email address if it is listed on the Contact Us page
  • Make a request in writing by downloading a repeat prescription form or by writing your personal details and requested medications on a blank piece of paper.
  • There is a section for repeats on your prescription sheet. You can tick the required medications and place the sheet in the dedicated box in your Surgery’s reception.
